They are probably our most defining physical feature as a species. Ironically, they are also the part of our anatomy that Generative Artificial Intelligence (or GAI) has the hardest time replicating when it comes to producing images.
Our ancestors, in the shadows of the caves in which they lived*, understood expression and left their mark on the cold walls within. That mysterious universal act, of a purely human intentionality, was fundamental to the origin of art, which, today, is a defining facet of humanity.
They needed very little to do this: only the use of their own hands!
Yes, the same ones that, whether on an analogue or digital format, allow you to write, paint, or play an instrument.
Or type instructions to generate something through AI. But sorry, we don't think the latter can be considered art. It may produce something aesthetically beautiful, sometimes indistinguishable from a human creation, and maybe even with a technical craft superior to that made by a person.
However, AI lacks any intentionality, any hint of life experience, of authenticity, of emotion, of wonder, of hope, of any eagerness to express that which we carry inside and which we need to bring out impulsively. The impressive thing is that this happens even during the creation of a commissioned work. It is impossible for mankind to disassociate artistic creation from emotions.
But an algorithm knows none of this, and its only merit is to produce more immediate results, bypassing the entire manual, creative and intellectual process. IAG does not create; it manufactures. It does not generate ideas; it only attends to statistical predictions, whose outcome is closer to that of a slot machine. IAG is not a being; it neither thinks, nor learns; it does not reason; it does not meditate a decision. It simply calculates the most probable outcome based on a set of data (dataset) from the instructions given (prompts).
To generative AI companies, this is all a matter of indifference. They only seek to replace us in order to take over the market, and in the process, destroying the true uniqueness of art, human culture, and perpetuating gender and racial stereotypes through the biases of GAI itself.
Furthermore, we are told that, thanks to GAI we can produce more quickly. More and more. Because consuming art must also be done compulsively. So as not to think. Like their algorithms, which neither think nor suffer. They only generate, squandering energy resources, exploiting labor and violating human rights.
As if that weren't enough, we are also told that AI democratizes art. Was it not already democratized? All you need is your hands (or your feet, or your mouth), a pencil, some paint, a stick, your voice... and practice! Put in the hours, cry, be proud, suffer, be frustrated, be happy. Above all, put in many, many, many hours.
Because, yes, today we can access a huge amount of information and that means that anyone can practice and devote their lives to the creation of art. There is no need for an algorithm to do it for us or replace us, and even less so when it has used the scrapings of the Internet to steal all possible works, bypassing all copyrights and the approval of those who created it, lacking any ethical and moral conduct. And as if that were not enough, they then intend to repackage this and sell it back to us through their predatory technology.
Even so, there are those who contemptuously call us neo-luddites. In this we agree; we are, and with great honor! They say that we do not want to adapt to the coming future either. Of course not, because this is not progress, it is slavery.
And that is why we are here. We want to give value to what we human beings want to do with art, we want to enjoy the pleasure of the path of creation itself, without a multinational company telling us how to proceed by delegating and forcing us to produce fast and impersonal garbage.
For this we have created this Seal of Accreditation that you can attach free of charge and royalty-free to your project in the near future, to identify it as a creation free of Generative Artificial Intelligence, made by human beings who feel joy, 'Made by Emotive Humans', humans who are passionate, feel, are fascinated, genuine. By human beings like you, who with your hands picked up your first paintbrush, your first pen, your first drumstick, raised your voice, and intuited with clarity that you didn't need any more to start feeling the pride for your inherent capacity to create art with your own hands. Is that not exciting?
*From Altamira (Spain), to Patagonia (Argentina), through Silawesi (Indonesia) and Wadi Sora (Egyptian Sahara).
We are developing various seals adapted to different media. This is a small sample of what's to expect.
Some of the seals we are preparing so that your project can proudly show that it is free of Generative Artificial Intelligence.
'Made by Emotive Humans' is a non-profit initiative, promoted by artists, for artists, and addresses the unfair situation caused by the intrusion of Generative AI.
